Stick or twist for Mayo hurlers tomorrow

After the historic high of climbing the steps of the Hogan Stand last Saturday afternoon and lifting the Nicky Rackard Cup, it's back to even more serious business tomorrow for the Mayo senior hurlers. Unlike the Christy Ring Cup, winning the competition does not guarantee you promotion to the next level of the senior hurling championship, so it's back on the road again for Mayo and a date with Derry in Ballinamore in Leitrim for the right to have a place in the draw for the Christy Ring Cup next season.

Egan and Horan team up for Westport seminar

Olympic silver medallist Kenneth Egan will be one of the sports stars and managers lining out to speak on Achieving Success in Sport – What does it take? a free, public seminar taking place in Westport Town Hall on Wednesday, November 11 starting at 7:30 pm. Kenneth, or Kenny, will be joined by James Horan, former Mayo Senior Football Manager, Valerie Mulcahy, one of the country’s most decorated sportswomen having claimed nine All-Ireland titles with the Cork Ladies Football side and Tom Mohan current manager of the FAI U17 national team. A member of the Connacht Rugby Team is also expected to join the panel but his name has not been confirmed at time of going to print.

Mayo are on the look out for a new senior football manager after the inevitable resigning of joint managers Pat Holmes and Noel Connelly last Friday night. It was a somewhat embarrassing saga in the Mayo GAA family that such an event occurred. By the time Noel and Pat resigned I had simply had enough. I was so drained from talking about it and anxiously waiting for any developments that I was relieved there was closure.
